Telling my story and having a conversation with students my organization help support in Sierra Leone. It’s been a long time coming from fleeing the rebel war in Sierra Leone, it feels like centuries ago when I left Freetown for the Washington, DC – Maryland area where I started my adolescents in middle school at a similar age (12) as these students I’m having the discussion with. The journey was an evolutionary process that needed to run its course in my upbringing. Throughout it all, with its ups and downs: I found success in the power of education. I learned when you allow yourself to take in knowledge, and take the time to process the information, only then will you begin to see the greatness in your abilities that your mind was destined to produce.
