Hospitals on wheels in Kenema and Kambia Districts

The Ministry of Health and sanitation has from Monday 12 September to Friday 16 September provided free Standard, accessible, quality, and free healthcare services to the people of Kambia and Kenema district through Hospitals on Wheels.
 
According to the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Princess Dugba, the Hospitals on Wheels, will be conducting mobile outreach services inclusive of maternal and child health services, general internal medicine including NCDs (hypertension, diabetes, and mental health), COVID-19 vaccination, eye care services and provision of required tests using hematology and biochemistry machines.

The Deputy Minister of Health said the government, headed by H.E Julius Maada Bio, through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, remains dedicated to providing quality, free and accessible healthcare services to all Sierra Leoneans devoid of the location.

She furthered that taking healthcare to people in local communities remains central to achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Speaking to this medium, one of the beneficiaries, Mariama Bah, thanked the health ministry for taking the hospital to their doorstep. She said since she gave birth this is the very first time she has received free treatment for her child.

She expressed that her child was treated for malaria, and also treated by the doctor in charge for some skin diseases. She said she also received enough drugs for herself and her child.

The maiden deployment of the Hospitals on Wheels project on 1 August 2022 saw accessible and quality healthcare with no cost implication to patients administered to nearly 5,000 people in four districts (Port Loko, Bo, and Western Area Rural & Urban).
