APC Young Congress endorses Ernest Koroma exit

According to the National Secretary-General of the APC-NYC, Alie Conteh the Leadership of NYC along with its membership has wholeheartedly welcomed the decision of the former President to exit the political stage

In the well-attended meeting held on Thursday 14 April with the press at the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party Headquarters in Freetown, the leadership of the APC National Youth Congress (NYC) (formerly National Youth League) has accepted and endorsed the position of the former President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to exit the political stage as the Leader and Chairman of the APC party and not to contest for any leadership position within the party.  According to the National Secretary-General of the APC-NYC, Alie Conteh the Leadership of NYC along with its membership has wholeheartedly welcomed the decision of the former President to exit the political stage and his strong reassurance not to contest for any position in the next National Delegate Conference.

Speaking to journalists during the press conference, the APC-NYC Secretary-General said the commitment of the Former to peace, security, and promotion of democracy and good governance which form essential features of his distinguished leadership throughout his tenure as Chairman and Leader of the APC and as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone were the biggest achievement for them as young people.

“We therefore hereby state that this decision has not come as a surprise as it has always indicated that his departure is imminent. As the Wing hosts the future determination and sustainable growth of the party, we wish to endorse, support, and congratulate the former President for that brave decision” he said.

He pointed out that whilst the entire nation received this message with sad and mixed feelings, the young people of the APC both in the country and in the diaspora have received the decision as comfort and an extension of the former President’s long-standing passion for the growth of the young people and the APC. He stated that they were always inspired and would remain motivated by his remarkable legacies including the transfer of knowledge, wisdom, and courage that assured their party and the country of a peaceful and safe transition.

“The former President has trained us well and prepared us for this moment. He carried us along during his distinguished journey and has accompanied us through this transition process. We wish to assure him, the great supporters of our party and the general public, that there is nothing to worry about. President Koroma has played his part, the onus is now on us to take forward the outstanding legacy of peace, national unity, and nation-building. We in the NYC are Red and Ready to live up to this great task of bringing the APC back to power in June 2023” he assured.

The National Secretary-General of the APC-NYC commended the Former President, adding that his landmark stewardship of their party and the country were undoubted. He assured them of their continued hard work and called on him in appealing to the entire membership of the party to embrace the potential of new leadership and tranquil for a peaceful and enduring transition.

Alie Conteh said the Young people of the APC are committed to the jealous protection of his legacies and the love for the people which he demonstrated. He added that the people of the party should translate and explain the decision to their numerous members for a better appreciation of its importance in ensuring an APC victory come 2023.
