SLP UPDATES MEDIA ON GUMA VALLEY VISIT

Sierra Leone Police has updated the press during their weekly press briefing o prominent issues affecting citizens of its headquarters in Freetown on Thursday 3rd March 2022.

Sierra Leone Police has updated the press during their weekly press briefing o  prominent issues affecting citizens of its headquarters in Freetown on Thursday 3rd March 2022.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Amadu Mannah said they visit various sites based on their patrol of which they were able to maintain security. He said they went to the Guma Valley dam and they were briefed about the level of the water. They looked at the general catchment area which was huge, but the level of encroachment that was coming from the Bawbaw angle seemed to be cause for concern.

 He revealed that according to the person that briefed them intimidated that the level of the water table should be very high.  AIG added that if the landmark of encroachment would not come to a halt, the country might further experience a shortage of water for a couple of years. ‘’There are people around the reserved forest area that are cutting down the huge trees, burning charcoals, putting a lot of pressure on the forest and by so doing we are going to place security at a strategic location,’’ Assistant Inspector General of Police said. 

Commissioner of police Victor M. Williams disclosed that an office has been opened for profiling of suspects before taking them to court to undergo proceedings. 

Chief Superintendent of Police Edina Silver said they have community relations officers everywhere within the regions that deal with mob justice. They have examined that bike riders within these regions are lawless. ‘‘We are sensitizing them about Centre Business District otherwise CBD areas together with cassette sellers and advertisers,’’ she stated.

Sierra Leone Police Weekly Press Briefing

Inspector Abdulai Rahman Sankoh from Kabala said they are investigating an alleged case of murder reported on Wednesday 16th February 2022 at 14:00hrs By one Mustapha Turay of Gbogo Town  Koinadugo District that on the said date 14th February 2022 at about 13:00hrs at Wakata Kuwa farming land one Abu Turay 48yrs old was shot and killed by unknown gunmen who were arm with locally made guns suspected to be resident at the said district.  He averred that at the scene of the crime four empty shells were found lying at the side of the corpse. 

He said photographs were taken remains of the deceased were brought to the Kabala Government hospital for post-mortem.  Noting that during the cause of the investigation, it was evident that the district has had a lot of standing disputes over a piece of farmland for over six years.
