ACCUSED PERSONS GRANTED 400 MILLION BAIL

According to the charge sheet, all accused persons between June 2020 to January 2022 at NP Fuel Station in Campbell Street Freetown conspired together to defraud Justice Glenna Thompson of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone.

Alimamy Koroma, a Driver employed by the Government of Sierra Leone attached to Justice Glenna Thompson a Supreme Court Judge as her personal driver, and two staff working at NP fuel station at Campbell Street in Freetown. Ruth Koroma and Mohamed Koroma respectively on Wednesday 8th March 2022 appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No 1 Pademba Road for fuel theft worth over one hundred million Leones.

C. Campbell Esq. cross-examined the witness representing the second and third accused persons. It could be recalled that all three accused persons Alimamy Koroma, Ruth Koroma, and Mohamed Koroma were charged with a count of conspiracy to defraud contrary to law.

Β According to the charge sheet, all accused persons between June 2020 to January 2022 at NP Fuel Station in Campbell Street Freetown conspired together to defraud Justice Glenna Thompson of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone. Count two explains Larceny by Servant Contrary to Section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.Β 

Based on the charge sheet for the first accused Alimamy Koroma who on the same date and place as well being a servant employed by the Government of Sierra Leone attached to the Judiciary stole 13,793 liters of fuel value one hundred and twenty million three hundred and thirty-eight thousand five hundred Leones which served as a property of Honourable Justice Glenna Thompson of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone.Β 

On the other hand, count five (5) talks about obtaining goods by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916. With regards to the charge, on the same date and place the accused obtained 257 liters of fuel value nineteen million one hundred and seventy-seven thousand Leones knowing the same to be false.

Making a testimony in court, the Prosecution Witness III Sarah Macmillan who served as a Detective Inspector attached to the Anti Fraud Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department the headquarter said he received an inquiry file containing detail of the complainant and a report. All three accused persons were arrested and brought to the CID ready for investigation.Β

During the course of the investigation, documents were handed over by the complainant. The documents had been in the custody of the police, which were produced and tendered as Exhibits B1to 8. He said he received a document from the NP Filling Station, which was equally in the custody of the police, where it was produced and tendered as C1 to 4

The Defence Counsel renewed the application for bail on behalf of the third accused person. Bail was granted for each accused person in the sum of two hundred and fifty million Leones.Β 

Magistrate Sahr Kekura demanded two sureties who should be fully employed by recognized institutions and should produce both employment letters and identity cards. The sureties should be a permanent resident in Freetown. Thereby should be verified by the bench also to be approved by the Deputy Assistant RegistrarΒ ASP Christiana David Cole prosecuted the matter and adjourned on 17th March 2022.
