Leone Stars football legends has passed away at age 45
Late Lamin Conteh, (alias Junior Tumbu)
Lamin Conteh (born 20 June 1976), Leone Stars Football legend passed away at the age of 45
he was widely known by his nickname Junior Tumbu, a Sierra Leonean former professional
footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He represented the Sierra Leone national team
between 1994 and the 2000s.
He is considered one of the most talented and popular Sierra Leonean footballers
of the 1990s and early 2000s. Junior Tumbu had a talent for dribbling and he played as a
supporting striker or attacking midfielder. During his playing days for the Leone Stars (Sierra
Leone national football team) Conteh was by far the most famous Sierra Leonean footballer
in Sierra Leone, and Sierra Leonean football fans loved him.
Junior Tumbu, as he was fondly called, served Sierra Leone diligently both as a football player
and as a technical Support Staff attached to Leone Stars. The former Leone Stars Capitan will not
be forever remembered within Sierra Leone football but also across the continent of Africa.
In a press from the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), announced with regret that it has
received distressful news reporting the death of former Leone Stars Lamin Conteh whose sad
the event took place in the early hours of Thursday, May in Kenema City.
The press release continued that the President of SLFA, Thomas Daddy Brima, his Executive
Committee, staff, and members of the football fraternity express their heartfelt condolences to the
entire Conteh family and friends. “we pray that the family gains the strength and courage of
everyone to overcome this moment of extreme grief” it stated.
