“President Bio Speechwriters are not doing justice to him”

The Leader of the Opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) Party in Parliament, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah has stated that the speechwriters of President Julius Maada Bio “are not doing justice to the President” relating it to repetition of issues that are in the speech that were not true. According to the APC Opposition Leader, the head of Ministries Department and Agencies deceived the President and that they would invite them to Parliament for questioning on information gathering for the President’s Speech. He made this statement a few days ago whilst debating the State of Address made by the President on Tuesday 10 May this year.

Rounding up the debate, the Leader of Opposition joined others to congratulate the President but, however, referenced and questioned certain aspects of the speech. He said fellow Members of Parliament (MPs) on the ruling side do not take offense when they are criticized. According to him, they are identifying the gaps in the speech to enhance improvement.

Speaking on the decline of inflation, he was comparatively informed that the country is facing bankruptcy and listed as high risk debt distress. He said the Sierra Leone Peoples Party ( SLPP) Government was to deliver, but they are still crying like babies, relative to the economy. He blamed the government for environmental degradation and advised them to do something about it.

He expressed concerns over the electricity blackout in Freetown, adding that nothing has added to the generation of electricity. According to him they don’t criticize but proffer solutions on the motions of thanks of the President. He said they would applaud the efforts being made by the government and noted that several excuses should stop.

“The government budget is very beautiful on paper, but is not practical and things are very difficult. The free medical Healthcare started by the previous administration of our government and that the platform set for Ebola by us was what the government used to fight COVID-19” he said.

He pointed out that food security has never been prioritized, urging the government to leave positive legacies. He expressed concerns that since the Bank Governor of the Central Bank came into office; the economy has been sinking, asking the House to question the latter on how the five hundred billion Leones was spent dished to commercial banks. He said the President talked about human rights, food security and housing as all tenants of human rights, blaming the police for not helping the situation in that direction.

He called on the House and the entire leadership to look into all outstanding human rights issues and went on to mention election-related matters.
